Candidate’s Statement
Born and raised in District 2, I was the last student to graduate from Sheep Ranch Elementary before it was closed. I graduated from Calaveras High in 1964, was honorably discharged after serving 4 years in the Air Force, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Service from Cal Poly in 1976. I then worked 17 years in the cannery business in management positions which included supervising 150 employees. I was responsible for personnel, production, maintenance, and 7-figured budgets. I learned a lot about fiscal responsibilities, and the importance of wise planning and placement of properly qualified people.
As a new challenge, I bought and profitably operated a mailing/shipping business for 6 years. In 1999 I sold my business and “retired,” moving back home to Sheep Ranch and planted a vineyard. I have since become an accidental machinist, and also an increasingly interested observer of our county government.
As your Supervisor I will appoint an appropriately qualified Planning Commissioner the first time around. I will seek the hiring of qualified, competent, knowledgeable people to manage our government departments. I will work to eliminate the need to pay big money to hired consultants. I will look out for and be accountable to THE PEOPLE OF DISTRICT TWO.

As a conservative I am concerned by the constant push here in Calaveras Co districtII to “upgrade” us. I don’t want “community center housing” nor do I desire subdivision of large land tracts to allow more houses to be built. As I sat at the first community planning meetings I found I was not alone. Many had the same “keep your hands off us” attitude. What are your views on the community plans that have been started by the ever so liberal few who are trying to make District II unto a metro area….to them I say…I hear San Jose is nice!

Why would “liberals” want to make District 2 into a metro area? Aren’t most of them concerned with the environment and perserving what litte green space is left? Last time I checked people were talking about smart growth, specifically with the communities wants and needs in mind.

John, Why did you decide to visit the men’s room when your opponent began speaking at the candidate’s forum? It showed bad manners. We need some serious competition for our district, not some yokel making a joke of the whole process. Poor decorum makes your opponent look better. Mary

I’m sorry if I offended anyone. I have diabetes and it was necessary to use the men’s room no matter who was speaking. I was hoping the moderator would take a break. Did you notice the timekeeper also took a break? Thank you for your observation.
