Jobs, or the lack thereof, are a big issue in District 2. Although the Board of Supervisors and county government cannot create jobs, they can however, encourage businesses that do create living wage jobs.

The construction business is one of the most important businesses in Calaveras County. If contractors aren’t building all of the related trades are suffering. The “no growth” policy of the present Board of Supervisors contributes immensely to this problem and must be reversed.

Economic development means the encouragement of sustainable business and job growth that promotes the well-being and quality of life of individuals and the health of the tax base. Development of enterprise zones and business incubators, removing roadblocks and reducing red tape are actions that I support to encourage economic development.

Drugs, particularly meth, are a problem in our district. I plan to work closely with county departments: the Sheriff, as well as the Health Dept, and its related efforts, schools, the Chamber of Commerce, and other local entities, to address this problem more closely AT ITS ROOTS.

The General Plan update will continue. The General Plan is not specific it is GENERAL. Elements of the Plan can’t be based on current theory closing doors for the future.

“Nothing is ours, which another may deprive us of.” –Thomas Jefferson. I support private property rights. I will not allow our government to deprive us of our rights.

Water is another issue. We need to stand up to EBMUD and other organizations to protect the precious water resources of our Mokelumne and Calaveras Rivers. And, with modern technology why can’t we use our hundred-plus year old mining water ditches again to deliver water?

I am open to any other concerns or ideas YOU may have about our District. I want the best for the people of District 2 and as your Supervisor I will give YOU my best. I hope I can count on your vote. Thank you.

I would like to know how you would treat veterans when they return to Calaveras County. The present supervisor and veterans services personnel have been no help to my son who came home after ten years in the Army, seven deployments including one in Afghanistan and three in Iraq. Job Connection was no help and neither were the Veterans representatives. Phone calls and emails were not returned and the Veterans office is not staffed on a regular basis.

He has found a job in Amador County, but I’m sure there are many more Calaveras vets who will need better services and communication from the people who are employed to help them.

What is the Calaveras County Veterans Services Office?
The Calaveras County Veterans Services Office (CSVO) is an office established by the
Board of Supervisors of Calaveras County to assist veterans, their dependents and
survivors, and the general public in obtaining benefits from federal, state and local
    agencies administering programs for veterans.

We are a county agency that assists veterans
in dealing with Veterans Affairs (VA).

I copied the above from the county website.
I will treat veterans with the respect they deserve and help them get the services they have earned. Maybe because Supervisor Wilensky did not serve in the armed forces, he doesn’t have the personal experience to understand the problems of veterans.
