Who am I?

I am not a career politician. I won’t say things for the sole purpose of making people feel good or to make myself feel important. When my son, Robin, was eight years old I told him that telling lies can be difficult because you have to remember what you said or you will get caught. Robin is now 23 and continuing to make smart choices.

I feel that local government should be run like a nonprofit business not as a political machine. The role of local government should be to help the citizens do well what they need to do, whether it’s building a house or a barn, recording a document, or just getting information. Government is not here to interfere in people’s business or private property rights. Life is difficult enough without adding unnecessary government interference.

I have a very positive view on life, which with the help of a well trained, knowledgeable oncologist my lymphoma was cured ten years ago. Beating cancer has taught me to greatly appreciate everything that comes my way, both negative and positive aspects.

The Cal Poly motto is “learn by doing” and I expect to continue learning for a long time. I believe you can teach an old dog new tricks. There are tricks to the teaching. And it helps if the old dog wants to learn.
